The uninhabited Shetland island of Hildasay has been placed on the market with an expected price exceeding £350,000. £350,000 (approximately €414,000). The 267-acre (approximately 110 hectares) site is located off the west coast of the Shetland Islands and is accessible only by boat via a private pier. The island features a rugged landscape with a rocky coastline, two freshwater lochs, and diverse birdlife. Historical uses of the land include granite quarrying and herring curing. Current structures include a traditional stone bothy-type building that lacks connection to the public electricity grid; previous occupants utilized a diesel generator and a small wind turbine for power. The bothy offers basic living quarters featuring a solid fuel stove, an open sleeping area, and a separate bathroom. Recent public interest in the island followed its use as a lockdown home by charity adventurer Chris Lewis, who documented his experience in his book, ‘Finding Hildasay’. Real estate agent Kelvin Anderson notes that any future modernization or expansion of the existing accommodations will require official building permits and regulatory approvals.
