Saltillo mayor expands civic, health, and development

In early July, Mayor Javier Díaz González launched a suite of youth-focused programs, including a youth council and the “Fiesta Segura” safety campaign. Later in July, the administration intensified the “Aquí Andamos” initiative, performing deep-cleaning of the San Lorenzo arroyo and repairing pavement on the El Sarape distributor. On 5 August, the mayor broke ground on a new DIF health-and-psychology centre in the Morelos colonia. This participatory-budgeting project, which received the most votes from citizens in the Participa Saltillo program, will cost over one million pesos and provide free basic-medicine prescriptions through a partnership with Farmacias del Ahorro. Infrastructure maintenance has remained a priority. In the Macho Muerto sector of Avenida Juan Bautista Arismendi, Hidroven technical teams inspected a road sinkhole caused by water saturation and leaking pipes. Additionally, the mayor continues to supervise sidewalk rehabilitation in the Historic Center and is leading the “Bosques Urbanos Lineales” reforestation program. Other recent developments include the “Tu Parque al Día” programme, which reported 52% completion of maintenance across 400 parks, and the inauguration of the GEMMSA metal-structures plant. In mid-August, the administration expanded its urban beautification efforts through the “Embellecimiento de Fachadas” program. On 19 August, the city launched new environmental management initiatives, including the “Tómala Cochino” campaign to encourage proper waste disposal. On 22 August, the “Aquí Andamos” program expanded its scope to include painting and rehabilitating bridge containment barriers, columns, and walls on Fundadores Boulevard, alongside repainting lane markings on various boulevards to improve road safety. To mitigate rainy season risks, the city also initiated the third stage of cleaning the stream and canal on Mezquite Street, using heavy machinery to remove trash and debris as part of a broader effort to maintain 34 natural drainage channels.
