Since June 2026 Salvador has accelerated its multimodal overhaul, duplicating the BA‑528 highway, expanding the VLT light‑rail, opening Transversal Corridors I and II, and securing a R$ 490 million contract for ten new metro train sets. In July the municipal government tendered the replacement of the STEC bus fleet with air‑conditioned vehicles, funded through a Caixa credit line and slated for delivery by the end of 2026. On 1 August 2026 the city’s mobility department (Semob) launched two new bus routes, lines 2004 and 2005, connecting Terminal Retiro with Mata Escura, Bom Juá and Arraial do Retiro. The services replace the former line 1204, provide the first regular service on Avenida Batatinha, and run frequent trips from early morning until evening, including weekends and holidays. The additions respond to resident requests, aim to shorten travel times and improve integration with the Bom Juá metro station, further advancing Salvador’s broader strategy of modernising public‑transport infrastructure. In late July, Mayor Bruno Reis announced that 700 new air‑conditioned buses will be delivered by the end of the year under the “Salvador + Segura” project. Several vehicles have already arrived and been plated, a complementary‑vehicle tender has been launched, and the existing transport subsidy has been approved for payment, making this the largest bus procurement in the city’s history.
