The legal proceedings regarding the Paupisi family massacre in Italy have concluded with a life sentence for Salvatore Ocone. The case stems from a September 30, 2025, attack in which Ocone killed his wife, Elisa Polcino, and his 15-year-old son, Cosimo, using heavy stones. His daughter, Antonia, survived the attack after receiving extensive medical care and months of rehabilitation. Prior to the sentencing, a psychiatric evaluation conducted by Vincenzo Scarallo determined that Ocone was fit to stand trial. Although the evaluation noted Ocone experienced delusions and hallucinations—specifically claiming his wife was ‘possessed by the demon’—it concluded his primary functional parameters remained intact. On the one-year anniversary of the killings, the Court of Assize in Benevento sentenced Ocone to life imprisonment. The court rejected defense arguments regarding his psychological vulnerability, determining he was fully capable of understanding and controlling his actions at the time of the crimes. The sentence also includes eight months of daytime isolation. Additionally, the court ordered financial compensation for the surviving children, including 80,000 euros for Antonia. Antonia and 50,000 euros for the couple’s other son, Mario, who was not present during the attack.
