Samson Adamu appointment appointed as CAF General Secretary

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially appointed Samson Adamu as its General Secretary. Adamu, a Nigerian administrator, had been serving in an acting capacity since March 2026 following the resignation of Véron Mosengo-Omba, who left to become the president of the football federation in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Adamu is the first Nigerian to hold this position in the organization’s history. His appointment followed a recruitment process involving advertisements and interviews. Having previously served as the Director of Competitions and the Director of Tournaments and Events, Adamu will now oversee day-to-day administration, legal affairs, and the implementation of CAF’s strategic priorities and executive decisions. CAF President Patrice Motsepe noted that the appointment resulted from a comprehensive recruitment process. Adamu, who joined CAF in 2018, has played a significant role in organizing major continental competitions, such as the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations. Following the formal confirmation of his appointment on November 1, Nigerian Vice President Kashim Shettima received a delegation led by National Sports Commission Chairman Malam Shehu Dikko to offer congratulations. Shettima described the appointment as evidence of Nigeria’s potential for international leadership in sports.
