Samsun is advancing diverse infrastructure, urban, and industrial development projects. In the Canik district, urban renewal efforts for the Mert River and the Gülsan Industrial Site have progressed, with the Samsun Metropolitan Municipality concluding a design competition for a 30-hectare area intended to integrate a service building, cultural center, and mosque. Industrial transformation is further evolving through the relocation of businesses from the Gülsan Industrial Site to the Toybelen Industrial Site. To support this transition and the increasing commercial activity in Toybelen, the municipality is constructing a new commercial complex featuring 21 independent restaurant and eatery units. Mayor Halit Doğan recently inspected the site to review progress aimed at providing services to the industrial workforce and reducing city center congestion. Transportation infrastructure is expanding through rail, aviation, and road upgrades. The light rail fleet is increasing from 29 to 41 vehicles, with the second of 12 new 42-meter-long, 74 percent domestic-production trams arriving for assembly. High-speed rail work continues on the Ankara-Kırıkkale-Çorum-Samsun line, with Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu noting that upcoming projects aim to reduce travel time between Samsun and Ankara to 2.5 hours. Additionally, Minister Uraloğlu announced the groundbreaking for new terminal buildings at Samsun-Çarşamba Airport to increase annual passenger capacity to three million. The SAMAIR bus service, launched in 2024, has since served 434,050 passengers, providing scheduled links between central districts and the airport. Road infrastructure has seen improvements with the completion of the Kenan Şara Interchange. This project utilized 42,000 square meters of asphalt and concrete to restore highway access interrupted by tram lines, resulting in a 26% reduction in traffic load at the Atatürk Boulevard DLH and Karayolları junctions. Healthcare investments reached a major milestone with the official inauguration of the Samsun City Hospital in the Canik district by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The 17 billion TL facility features 1,458 beds and was constructed with 1,027 earthquake isolators. During his visit, President Erdoğan also participated in a youth meeting at the PETEK Youth Center, discussing national policies and regional security.
