On 31 July, Samsung officially announced the Galaxy Buds Able, its first open-ear headphones, designed to sit on the outer ear cartilage for comfort and stability during activity. On 2 August, further leaks detailed the “Buds Canal 5” prototype, featuring a flat body and a hook for secure fit during training. On 11 August, Samsung received FDA clearance for a new hearing aid feature for the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro and Galaxy Buds 4 Pro. Aimed at adults with mild to moderate hearing loss, the feature includes a “Galaxy Buds Hearing Test” via a compatible phone. The software uses pure-tone audiometry to categorize hearing levels, with results integrated into the Samsung Health app. The hearing aid mode utilizes advanced processing and beamforming to amplify specific sounds like high-pitched frequencies or distant voices. This software, registered as a “Software as a Medical Device,” follows the NAL-NL2 fitting formula.
