San Antonio Spurs roster and season opener updates
Overview
The San Antonio Spurs have finalized a 21-man roster for their 2026-27 training camp, consisting of 17 players with full NBA or two-way contracts and four camp invitees: RJ Davis, Jon Elmore, Taelon Peter, and Malik Williams. The roster features veterans such as Harrison Barnes alongside new additions Tobias Harris and Tarris Reed Jr.
As the team approaches its season opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder, they face a setback with offseason acquisition Tobias Harris, who is sidelined due to a left calf strain. This injury is expected to impact the team’s frontcourt depth.
To compensate, Coach Mitch Johnson is expected to utilize a three-guard starting lineup featuring Dylan Harper, De’Aaron Fox, and Stephon Castle, relying on Victor Wembanyama’s rim protection to manage perimeter defensive size. Other key rotation players include Devin Vassell and Carter Bryant. Recent preseason performances have also highlighted rookie Ja’Kobi Gillespie, who averaged 12 points and shot 50% from three-point range during five exhibition games.
