Padres ~~clinch postseason berth and Wild Card lead~~ enter postseason; Salas sets age record

The San Diego Padres have officially clinched a postseason berth for the third consecutive season, setting a franchise record. The milestone was achieved following a 4-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers, which also secured the Padres the solo lead in the National League Wild Card standings. Manny Machado continued his offensive momentum with a two-run home run, bringing his career total to 398 and leaving him just four home runs shy of the 400-club milestone. The decisive seventh inning also featured RBI singles from Fernando Tatis Jr. and Ethan Salas. On the mound, Dodgers pitcher Tyler Glasnow recorded 11 strikeouts and maintained a no-hitter through five innings before the Padres offense rallied. Yuki Matsui earned the win for San Diego, and Mason Miller secured his 38th save of the season. The loss for Los Angeles ended their 11-game home winning streak. Transitioning into the postseason, the Padres faced the Chicago Cubs in the National League Wild Card Series. In Game 2, Venezuelan catcher Ethan Salas set a Major League Baseball record as the youngest catcher to start a postseason game at 20 years and 121 days old. Salas surpassed the modern-era record previously held by Bob Didier. In his postseason debut, Salas contributed a sacrifice fly in the second inning to drive in Jackson Merrill, assisting the Padres in securing an early lead.
