In late July, officials in San Roque announced the town’s 20th-anniversary patron saint festival, a ten-day event scheduled for 14-23 August. The programme highlighted 81 free activities, 30 musical performances—including international acts such as Marky Ramone—and a naval combat display, aiming to attract over 330,000 visitors. Community celebrations preceded the main fair. On 7 August, the nearby village of Blimea hosted a festival featuring a floral offering to the ‘Ramu’, children’s games, and a midnight ceremony. Simultaneously, the Hermandad de Fiestas de San Roque celebrated its 75th anniversary with an artisan market of approximately 25 stalls and a tribute to local volunteers. The Feria Real de San Roque 2026, held at the Los Olivillos fairgrounds, commenced with a coronation ceremony on 11 August. The festivities, which include a ‘cena de mayores’, a women’s lunch, and the ‘toro del aguardiente’, were led by 17-year-old youth queen Esmeralda Catalina Villalta Jiménez. Due to anticipated heat, Mayor Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix noted that much activity was expected to concentrate in the early morning. By 15 August, religious and cultural events were underway. Local children were presented to the patroness, Santa María La Coronada, in a ceremony involving a floral offering by the Royal Fair Youth Court. In the cultural sphere, a major bullfight featuring matadors David Galván, Román, and Joaquín Galdós was held at the San Roque bullring. As part of a social initiative, 400 local seniors attended the event for five euros. Religious ceremonies continued with a solemn mass and a traditional procession through the historic district, accompanied by the Banda de Música Maestro Infantes. Additionally, a special ceremony was held at the Jesusín de Galiana chapel to bless pets in honor of San Roque, the patron saint of animals.
