Santa Ana puppy cruelty investigation and arrest

Overview

Santa Ana police launched an investigation into the intentional killing of a nine-month-old pit bull mix puppy on September 8. Surveillance footage showed a woman using food to lure the animal before driving a minivan over it, pinning the puppy under a tire for approximately 15 seconds.

Authorities later identified the suspect as 75-year-old Hahn Nguyen. Using automated license plate readers, investigators tracked her vehicle to a residence in Anaheim, where she was arrested. Nguyen has been charged with two felony counts of animal cruelty, including a sentencing enhancement for the use of a deadly weapon. She was released after posting $20,000 bail.
