SAP acquisition of TechWolf and expansion of Joule AI

SAP has agreed to acquire TechWolf, a Belgian startup specializing in artificial intelligence for workforce intelligence and skills mapping. The acquisition, expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026 pending regulatory approval, aims to integrate TechWolf’s technology into technology—including its proprietary context graph, AI models, and research team—into SAP’s SuccessFactors HR software and its AI assistant, Joule. TechWolf’s technology analyzes HR and business systems to track job tasks, employee skills, and labor market trends. SAP intends to use these capabilities to support its ‘Autonomous HCM’ strategy, moving toward connected AI agents capable of managing end-to-end HR processes like hiring, payroll, and training. At the SAP Connect conference, the company introduced ‘Joule Work’, a new interface designed to integrate AI directly into user workflows, with a goal of providing more than 400 ‘Joule Agents’ by the end of 2026. Following the deal, TechWolf will operate as an independent unit based in Ghent, led by CEO Andreas De Neve. The platform will remain available to organizations that do not use SAP software. SAP has identified IBM, John Deere, Swiss Re, and Wipro as companies that will implement connected SuccessFactors agents at scale within the next eight months.
