SAP CEO Christian Klein has identified artificial intelligence as a historic growth opportunity, focusing on the development of AI agents to create an ‘autonomous enterprise’ through a unified platform. While German mid-sized companies face implementation challenges regarding complexity and governance, SAP has begun demonstrating practical applications of this vision. At the SAP Connect conference in Las Vegas, the company showcased its SAP Autonomous Suite and Business AI Platform, featuring Joule Work and Joule Assistants designed to automate complex business processes. These agents are intended to move beyond simple data analysis to execute specific tasks across finance, procurement, HR, and supply chain management under human supervision. Early adopters such as Novartis, Nestlé, and PwC are already piloting specific tools, including the Joule Sourcing Assistant at Novartis and a Billing Assistant at PwC to identify accounting errors. Additionally, SAP announced SAP Pay, an embedded payment service within SAP Cloud ERP, and SAP Enterprise Financial Consolidation. To enhance interoperability, SAP noted that Joule agents will be capable of connecting with third-party AI systems via the Agent2Agent protocol. New AI agent capabilities for supply planning, manufacturing, SAP is further advancing this integration by embedding Joule into S/4HANA and logistics are expected SuccessFactors systems. These context-aware assistants access real-time corporate data to roll out through late 2026 automate processes such as financial closings, which could potentially be reduced to two days. The ‘Autonomous Suite’ is expanding across five core areas: finance, expense management, human resources, customer experience, and early 2027 via supply chain management. Internally, SAP has deployed Joule Work to its 110,000 employees to boost productivity. Furthermore, the Early Adopter Care program. company is leveraging AI-assisted coding to support its ‘Clean Core’ strategy, allowing businesses to extend system functionality without modifying the central core.
