Following the death of Formula One hospitality pioneer Paddy McNally on 22 July 2026, significant speculation arose regarding whether his estimated £600 million (€700 million) estate would benefit former Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson. However, this narrative shifted as biographers provided conflicting accounts of McNally’s intentions. While some initial reports anticipated her as a beneficiary, biographer Andrew Lownie later stated that McNally decided the money should not be linked to the “tainted” reputation of a royal figure. This was echoed by Andrew Leonie, who reported that McNally intended his fortune for charitable purposes, effectively ruling Ferguson out as an heir. As of mid-August, Ferguson has reportedly been staying in Verbier, Switzerland, at a property previously owned by McNally. According to commentator Richard Kay, she is using the Swiss ski resort as a discreet location to avoid media attention. While McNally had provided significant financial support to Ferguson throughout ~~her~~ his life, current reports indicate that the prospect of a major inheritance has been replaced by the likelihood that his estate will be directed toward charity. On 14 August, Princess Beatrice attended McNally’s funeral at St James’s Church in Sevenhampton, Swindon. Beatrice attended the service to represent her mother, Sarah Ferguson, who was unable to attend the ceremony.
