Saratoga Springs attempted murder attack
Overview
In Saratoga Springs, New York, 36-year-old David Cruz Torres was charged with second-degree attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon following an attack on his coworker, Olivia Neri.
According to police reports, the incident occurred after a work shift when Neri was driving Torres home. Torres allegedly used a knife to slash Neri’s throat inside the moving vehicle. Neri managed to jump from the car to seek help, though the vehicle subsequently crashed into a local restaurant.
Neri sustained life-threatening injuries, including damage to her trachea, ear, and left carotid artery, which have impacted her ability to speak. She was airlifted to Albany Medical Center for emergency surgery. Torres was taken into custody following an attempted flight from the scene and remains held without bail. As of October 12, a GoFundMe campaign for Neri’s medical expenses had raised nearly $13,000.
