Saudi Arabia National Afforestation Season 2026

Overview

The 2026 National Afforestation Season has been launched across different regions of Saudi Arabia as part of the Saudi Green Initiative. Under the slogan ‘A generation plants... for a prosperous nation’, the program aims to increase vegetation cover, combat desertification, and promote environmental sustainability.

In the Al-Jouf region, Governor Prince Faisal bin Nawaf bin Abdulaziz inaugurated the season, noting that the region has already exceeded its 2030 target by planting more than 8.8 million trees and restoring over 155,000 hectares of land. The initiative also included the launch of a pastoral seed dispersal program to enhance biodiversity.

In the Makkah region, Deputy Governor Prince Saud bin Mishal bin Abdulaziz launched the season. The region has planted over 7.7 million trees since 2021 and is working toward a 2030 target of 31.3 million trees. The program emphasizes the use of local plant species adapted to arid climates to ensure long-term sustainability.
