The eighth Crown Prince Camel Festival continues at the historic Taif camel racing track in Saudi Arabia, running until September 13, 2026. Organized by the Saudi Camel Federation under the patronage of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the event features a total prize pool exceeding 50 million Saudi riyals. Saudi camels have maintained a dominant presence across various categories. During the opening day of the ‘Al-Laqaya’ category, which involves 64 rounds covering 256 kilometers, Saudi camels secured first place in eight out of 14 rounds. In the ‘Al-Jadhah’ category, Saudi competitors won seven out of 15 rounds. Notable individual performances include the camel ‘Sharrara,’ owned by Saeed Manana Ghadeer Ajtabi, which recorded an average speed of 38.956 km/h. International participation remains high, with camels from Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Kuwait securing multiple wins. For instance, Qatari camels led three rounds in the ‘Al-Laqaya’ opening, while the camel ‘Fay,’ owned by Mohammed Bousba’a, led the ‘Bakkar – General’ round. Kuwait’s ‘Al-Jathab,’ owned by Hadi Al-Ajmi, recorded the best time in the ‘Qa’dan General’ round. Recent competitions in the human rider (Hajana) category saw 69 participants from six Arab nationalities competing in four rounds for men and women. Saudi riders Bandar Al-Huwaiti and Rami Al-Balawi won the men's rounds, while Khuloud Al-Shammari and Jawa'a Al-Rashidi secured victories in the women's categories. In the Al-Judha' category, which saw 652 camels compete across 38 rounds, competition intensified between regional powers. While Saudi camels led morning sessions, the evening cup rounds saw success from the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, with the Emirati camel ‘Adeeb’ recording the fastest time of the day and the Qatari camel ‘Al-Farkiya’ securing a major title.
