Rail operators are expanding night train services in Scandinavia. Scandinavia and across Europe. In late August 2026, Snälltåget announced a trial run for a direct night train service between Malmö and Trondheim, scheduled for September 5–6, 2026. This test, facilitated by the electrification of the Meråker Line, aims to extend the Malmö–Storlien service into Norway with stops in Stockholm, Åre, and Hell. Additionally, European Sleeper has announced plans to expand its overnight network into Scandinavia by spring 2028. In partnership with RDC, the company intends to launch a route connecting Brussels, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, and Malmö, offering various accommodation levels from seats to deluxe sleeper compartments. This service is designed to provide a “no-change overnight link” between Belgium, the Netherlands, and Denmark/Sweden. European Sleeper is also expanding growing its broader network. A new service is set to debut on September 9, 2026, connecting Milan to Brussels via Cologne, traveling through Switzerland with stops at Como San Giovanni, Lugano, and Bellinzona. The This route is expected to see further extensions to the Netherlands and Belgium by December. Looking toward spring 2028, European Sleeper and RDC plan to launch a sleeper service will operate on Wednesday, Friday, connecting Brussels, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, and Sunday evenings from Milan.
