Educational institutions in Chile and Argentina have faced a series of security incidents involving theft, vandalism, and fire. In Chile, the Liceo Polivalente El Llano in Maipú experienced a major robbery where thieves used master keys to steal technical equipment, including computers and a robotic arm, with losses estimated between 70 and 80 million pesos. In Santiago, masked individuals caused disturbances at the Liceo de Aplicación by setting fire to a bathroom and a trash container, leading to class suspensions and planned legal action by the Servicio Local de Educación Pública (SLEP). In Argentina, schools in Santa Fe reported five separate robberies within two weeks, characterized by property damage and intimidating messages, resulting in the suspension of secondary classes. Additionally, a fire caused by a computer CPU in the principal’s office at Escuela Nº 43 ‘Presbítero Gabriel Villón’ in Feliciano damaged furniture and documentation. Recent incidents in Argentina include a break-in at Escuela N° 49 Dr. Agustín Arayano in the Las Vegas neighborhood. Thieves entered at least three classrooms, stealing a large quantity of cables and several space heaters. The resulting damage forced the suspension of classes for more than 500 students while police and forensic experts investigated the scene.
