Ferat Koçak, a member of the Die Linke party in Berlin, has faced multiple allegations of misconduct. Initially, Koçak faced scrutiny regarding his connections to the Remmo clan, an organized crime family in Berlin. Investigations revealed that relatives of Koçak were tenants or business operators in a property linked to the clan. Following the release of chat messages between Koçak and Firas Remmo, the son of the clan leader, Koçak agreed to step down from his position on the parliamentary Internal Affairs Committee. However, new disputes have emerged regarding the nature of these contacts. While Koçak described his interactions with clan leader Issa Remmo as ‘naive and overwhelmed’, Remmo has publicly disputed this, alleging that Koçak visited his office personally for discussions lasting over an hour. This has led Green Party expert Konstantin von Notz to call for enhanced security mechanisms within the Bundestag to protect state secrets and parliamentary integrity. Subsequent reports have also shifted focus to the potential misuse of Bundestag funds. Allegations suggest that Koçak’s constituency office, office in Neukölln, which receives a monthly tax-funded allowance, allowance of approximately 5,500 euros, may have been used for party political campaigning and election activities. Furthermore, there are concerns regarding the potential use of mandate-related social funds to redistribute money to voters with unpaid bills to increase party popularity, which an action that would violate regulations against using financial incentives to influence voters.
