Search for missing child Parents arrested in death of 5-year-old in Pawleys Island
A large-scale, multi-agency search was launched Following the tragic discovery of five-year-old Sailor Hayes’ body in a water canal in Pawleys Island, South Carolina, for five-year-old Sailor Hayes, authorities have arrested her parents, John Herb Hayes III and Geordyn Nichole Hayes of Bristol, Virginia. The parents face charges of unlawfully placing a nonverbal child who disappeared from at risk and willfully abandoning a rental home in the Hagley Community. The search operation involved deputies, K9 units, the Midway Fire Department, child. Investigators allege that the Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol, parents failed to provide adequate supervision for their daughter, who was nonverbal, autistic, and aerial drone support. Authorities also utilized Project Lifesaver, had a tracking system, to assist in locating the child. The extensive search effort, which included helicopters, diving teams, Coast Guard vessels, known history of elopement and even an ice cream truck used affinity for water. According to play music, ultimately ended in tragedy. Despite arrest warrants, the deployment of specialized equipment to track parents allegedly removed a monitoring device attached from the child prior to leaving Virginia. Furthermore, investigators claim the girl’s ankle, her parents misled search efforts by encouraging the use of tracking technology while knowing the child was not wearing the device, and allegedly directed searchers away from the body of water where the child was discovered eventually located. The parents were arrested in a water canal. Carter County, Tennessee, and are currently awaiting extradition to Georgetown County.
