SEBI enforcement against JPMorgan unit and Mansi Share

Overview

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has issued interim orders banning Copthall Mauritius Investment Ltd., a unit associated with JPMorgan Chase & Co., and Mansi Share and Stock Broking Ltd. from participating in Indian securities markets.

The regulator alleges the entities engaged in market manipulation during the Closing Auction Session (CAS) on August 13, 2026. SEBI claims the firms used order spoofing tactics—placing large buy and sell orders and subsequently canceling them—to distort the indicative equilibrium price of the BSE Sensex Index to benefit derivatives positions. In some instances, these orders reportedly accounted for over 90% of all orders.

SEBI has impounded approximately Rs 3.68 crore in alleged wrongful gains, with Copthall accounting for roughly Rs 29.6 million and Mansi Share for about Rs 7.2 million. The enforcement action follows the recent implementation of the CAS mechanism, which replaced the Volume-Weighted Average Price method on August 3, 2026.
