Angelina Vučić, mother of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, has publicly addressed the security risks and psychological toll caused by her son’s political career. In the documentary ‘Državnik’, she described experiencing intense fear for her son’s safety and expressed frustration over a lack of accountability regarding a 2015 attack on him in Potočari. Following these accounts, reports emerged of a physical and verbal assault against Ms. Vučić in central Belgrade near the Kalenić market after she had been voting. The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) characterized the incident as an attack by a group of men with political affiliations to protesters, alleging they pushed her and tore her bags. Additional reports suggested an individual caused an injury to her hand while shouting insults. On the day of early parliamentary elections, the SNS stated that a group of young men, described as being “politically aligned with protesters or blockaders,” pushed the 82-year-old Ms. Vučić, shouted at her, and tore her bags of groceries. While the ruling party has linked the attackers to political protesters, independent confirmation of the perpetrators' identities and political affiliations has not yet been established. Following the incident, police arrested a 28-year-old suspect, identified as N. M., on suspicion of robbery. The suspect has been detained for 48 hours pending a hearing by the prosecutor's office. Ms. Vučić has reported the matter to the police, and the SNS has called for an urgent investigation. investigation, condemning the act as an “unacceptable form of aggression and intimidation.”
