A series of attacks targeting Iranian security forces has occurred across the Sistan and Baluchestan province in southeastern Iran. Initial reports detailed specific incidents in the Zahedan region, including a bombing on the Cheshmeh Ziarat axis that killed Dr. Nosrat Eftekhari, the Deputy for Cultural and Social Affairs of the Sistan and Baluchestan Police Command, and an ambush on a Nosratabad Commando Unit patrol on the Lakshek road that killed Second Lieutenant Vahid Enayat. Subsequent reports indicated a broader escalation, with at least five military and police personnel killed during four separate attacks in the Nikshahr, Nosratabad, Faryab, and Jaleq areas within a 24-hour period. The People’s Fighters Front, an alliance of Baluch armed organizations formed in late 2025 that includes the Sunni Baluch group Jaish al-Adl, claimed responsibility for three of the assaults. While Iranian authorities confirmed fatalities, local human rights monitors suggested the death toll might be higher. The security situation has continued to escalate with the assassination of Afsaneh Aghila, a female Basij militia commander, who was shot dead outside her home in Mehrestan County. This marks the second assassination of a female official in the province within a single week, following the death of Major Nosrat Eftekhari. While local Iranian media have attributed these killings to terrorists linked to the United States and Israel, no specific group has claimed responsibility for the Basij commander’s death.
