Donald Trump secretly switched planes in Turkey amid missile threat
President Donald Trump secretly switched aircraft while departing Ankara, Turkey, following a credible and imminent threat involving a shoulder-fired missile targeting Air Force One. The security operation, conducted during the NATO summit in July, involved moving the President from the primary presidential aircraft to a smaller C-32A military jet using a catering truck to obscure his movements.
Intelligence regarding a potential Iranian assassination plot was reportedly provided by Israel to the CIA. While some U.S. intelligence officials expressed skepticism, viewing the information as low-confidence and potentially intended to influence U.S. policy, the Secret Service proceeded with the precaution.
During the maneuver, senior cabinet members, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, remained on the original Air Force One, which served as a decoy. The aircraft carried members of the press and other White House staff. Trump was accompanied on the smaller jet by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and several close personal aides, including Natalie Harp, Dan Scavino, and Walt Nauta.
