Seismic activity in the Granada region of Spain has ~~prompted historical comparisons to major geological events. Since mid-August, the National Geographic Institute (IGN) has recorded over 1,400 tremors, with more than 100 felt by the public. Significant activity included two magnitude 4.8 earthquakes on August 15 in Alhendín and August 18 in Gójar. These shallow tremors were felt across more than 500 locations, including Málaga, Córdoba, Jaén, Almería, Murcia, and Madrid, resulting in material damage, evacuations, and minor injuries.
