Senegal has launched several strategic initiatives aimed at industrial, agricultural, and urban development. The government introduced the National Green Industrialization Strategy (SNIV) for 2026-2030, which seeks to integrate ecological transition with industrial growth. This plan includes a 350 billion FCFA investment to develop 45 industrial zones and 30 agro-industrial zones, with a goal of increasing renewable energy in the national mix to 40% by 2030. Minister of Environment and Ecological Transition, Aliou Gori Diouf, has emphasized that this strategy aligns with the ‘Vision Senegal 2050’ framework, which aims to balance industrialization with circular economy principles and place youth at the center of climate change combat. The development of these zones is intended to strengthen economic sovereignty and promote local production transformation. In tandem with these industrial goals, the administration is focusing on agricultural protectionism and infrastructure. Measures have been outlined to strengthen marketing funds for onion and potato production, alongside new regulations requiring proof of local product purchases before horticultural imports are authorized. Additionally, the government is maintaining the ‘Maize Granary’ program to target 30,000 tonnes of production. Urban and regional development is also being prioritized through infrastructure projects, such as the Mbour-Fatick-Kaolack highway and the Bissau-Dakar road corridor. President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has designated Kaolack as the host for the 2029 national independence parade to drive economic and urban renewal in the Saloum region.
