In mid‑July 2026, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye launched a blue‑economy strategy at a national maritime forum in Dakar, linking maritime sovereignty to Senegal’s Vision 2050. He emphasized that “our maritime sovereignty is not negotiable” and announced plans for a dedicated university and skills-development programs to transform Senegal’s coastline into a West African transport hub.
