Sentencing of Justin Williams for murder

Overview

Justin Williams, 27, was sentenced to 26 years to life in prison for the August 2022 murder and dismemberment of his ex-girlfriend, D’Asia Johnson.

Prosecutors established that Williams stabbed Johnson multiple times before dismembering her body with a meat cleaver inside her East New York apartment. For nearly a month, Williams lived in the residence while attempting to conceal the crime by using cleaning products to mask the odor of decomposition. During this time, he impersonated Johnson to maintain her employment, used her paychecks, and utilized her public benefits for food and other expenses.

Johnson was under an order of protection at the time of the killing. Her remains were discovered following a wellness check conducted by building personnel. Williams was convicted of several charges, including second-degree murder, concealment of a human corpse, grand larceny, criminal impersonation, and welfare fraud.
