Following its launch on September 15, the European Space Agency’s Sentinel-3C satellite has successfully transmitted its first images and measurements. Early data includes observations of the Po Valley in Italy, the Canadian Arctic, the Bahamas, and the Antarctic ice sheet. As On September 30, 2026, the third spacecraft in ESA released the Sentinel-3 series, first official images from the mission is designed to monitor satellite, which was launched from French Guiana. These images provide views of the health Italian peninsula, the Alps, the Po Valley, and the Mediterranean Sea. As part of Earth’s oceans, the Copernicus program, the mission aims to provide continuous data on ocean, land, cryosphere, and atmosphere. The satellite’s instruments will track sea atmospheric conditions to support climate change research and public administration decisions. Complementing these orbital observations, the ASPIM project has established a digital monitoring network for eleven Mediterranean Marine Protected Areas in Italy. Developed by ETT under the PNRR DigitAP program with support from ISPRA, the system utilizes solar-powered surface buoys equipped with sensors. These devices collect approximately 2 million data points annually—including temperature, height, salinity, oxygen levels, and color, as well as monitor chlorophyll—to enable continuous environmental factors such as droughts, wildfires, vegetation health, and floods. monitoring from the surface down to 40 meters deep. The Sentinel-3C satellite is currently entering a five-month commissioning and calibration phase. Once complete, the data will support global weather forecasting, marine pollution monitoring, and climate change tracking throughout its expected seven-year lifetime.
