Seoul urban redevelopment and housing initiatives
Overview
The Seoul Metropolitan Government has implemented several measures to increase housing supply and support urban revitalization. In mid-October, the city approved 8 billion won in loans to assist seven small-scale housing redevelopment and reconstruction zones. This initiative, facilitated through the Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation, provides low-interest financing to alleviate financial burdens for cooperatives during early project stages.
By late October, the city expanded its development efforts by approving four major projects during an Architectural Committee meeting. These include two apartment remodeling projects in Seocho-gu and Songpa-gu, which will add 359 units to the existing housing stock. Additionally, two station area revitalization projects in Seongbuk-gu and Mapo-gu were cleared to provide 262 new units, incorporating public rental housing and facilities for youth entrepreneurship and women’s employment.
