Various memorial events are being organized to honor the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, specifically focusing on the 343 firefighters who died during the event. In late August, reports highlighted memorial stair climbs in Columbiana County, where participants climb the equivalent of 110 stories to benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. This includes an international effort involving firefighters from the United Kingdom traveling to Georgia to participate in a climb at Truist Park. Following these reports, the Poudre Fire Authority announced a public 9/11 Stair Climb at Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins, Colorado. Scheduled for September 11, the event aims to honor both the original victims and first responders lost in the 25 years since the attacks, with proceeds from merchandise sales supporting the 1945 Foundation. To observe the 25th anniversary of the attacks, additional memorial climbs took place in September. In Savannah, the Savannah Professional Firefighters Association organized the fourth annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Enmarket Arena. Nearly 500 participants, some carrying over 60 pounds of safety gear, climbed 110 flights of stairs. Co-founder Tyler Barrett noted the event serves to “carry on the legacy of those lost.” In Santa Cruz County, firefighters held an annual climb at Seacliff State Beach in Aptos. The ceremony involves climbing the equivalent of 110 stories to remember the firefighters, paramedics, and law enforcement officers killed in New York. Program lead Kyle Todd emphasized the event as a way to reconnect and ensure the scale of the loss is not forgotten by younger generations. Marking the 25th anniversary, additional commemorative climbs were held in Flushing, New York, where more than 600 service members and first responders participated in a stair climb at Citi Field.
