The ‘Svoj na svome’ law provides a simplified process for registering previously illegal buildings in Serbia. An extension was granted to allow citizens who missed the initial February deadline to apply, provided they could present valid justifications such as illness or technical difficulties. As the extended deadline approached on October 24, 2026, Dalibor Babić, acting director of the Republic Geodetic Authority (RGZ), reported that 2.7 million applications had been received, with approximately 200,000 submitted during the supplementary period. To expedite the process, the cadastre was processing roughly 11,500 objects daily. The state had issued 1.2 million property rights confirmations by this stage. Applications could be submitted via the ‘Svoj na svome’ portal, at Post of Serbia counters, or through local government offices. Registration fees ranged from 100 to 1,000 euros based on property size and location, though exemptions were provided for social welfare recipients, war veterans, and persons with disabilities. By the time the final deadline expired on October 24, 2026, the Agency for Spatial Planning and Urbanism had issued over 603,000 registration certificates. More than 500,000 citizens and legal entities successfully registered properties in the cadastre. The program included fee exemptions for social welfare recipients, war veterans, and persons with disabilities.
