In late July 2026 the Serbian double‑scull pair of Martin Mačković and Nikolaj Pimenov travelled to Varese, Italy, to compete in the European Rowing Championships, using the event as a final test before the World Championships in Amsterdam. The regatta introduced a new format in which the two fastest crews from each qualification group advance directly, eliminating traditional repechage races. During the championships, both Both Serbian men’s double crews won their qualification groups, securing direct semifinal spots. Mačković and Pimenov posted posting a time of 6:12.63, while Jovana Arsić led the women’s single‑scull with the fastest qualifying time. Their strong performances set them up for the semifinals time of 7:21.95, securing direct semifinal entries against crews from Germany, Moldova, Spain, Croatia and neutral athletes. The competition progressed to the finals, where Arsić earned a bronze medal in the women’s single scull with a time of 7:21.58, behind Britain’s Lauren Henry (gold) and Lithuania’s Viktorija Sankutė (silver). Mačković and Pimenov captured gold in the men’s double scull. Their medal haul reinforces Serbia’s confidence heading into the World Championships in Amsterdam. The championships featured 32 European nations, 424 athletes and 190 boats across 24 events, with mixed results for neighboring Croatia but a strong overall showing for Serbia.
