Panathinaikos is undergoing a massive structural overhaul, centered on the return of legendary head coach Željko Obradović on a three-year deal through 2029. To support him, the club has revamped its technical staff, including the return of Mike Batiste as an assistant coach and Dimitris Diamantidis in an administrative capacity. The club has assembled a high-budget roster featuring players such as Guerschon Yabusele, Sylvain Francisco, Moustapha Fall, Branko Banio, Isaac Bonga, and Mathias Lessort. As the team commenced season preparations, captain Kostas Sloukas emphasized that winning titles is an “obligation” for the club. Following an initial EuroLeague season opener and a victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv, the team maintained momentum with a 92-74 victory over Fenerbahçe and a 72-55 win against Partizan Belgrade. In recent developments, Juancho Hernangómez extended his contract through 2030, citing the club’s winning culture. However, the team has faced significant roster challenges due to injuries to Kendrick Nunn (meniscus tear) and Nigel Hayes-Davis (fractured metatarsal). Despite these absences, Panathinaikos secured a 91-72 victory over Paris in their EuroLeague opener. Following a loss to PAOK in the Stoiximan Super Cup semifinal, owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos praised Obradović’s authenticity, calling him “THE GREATEST!”. The team has since maintained a strong EuroLeague campaign, securing a 85-79 win over Baskonia to move to a 6-1 record. During this period, Panathinaikos football coach Jakob Nystrup attended a 90-67 victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv, praising the atmosphere and describing Obradović as a ‘great leader’. The team also achieved a 4-0 start to the season following a 92-74 win against Fenerbahçe, marking the first time the club has achieved such a start in nearly two decades. This success was bolstered by performances from Mathias Lessort, Nigel Hayes-Davis, and Sylvain Francisco.
