In early August 2026 Serbia highlighted its deepening strategic partnership with Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan, with State Secretary Nevena Jovanović thanked thanking the outgoing Azerbaijani ambassador Kamal Hasiyev for his role in strengthening political dialogue, high‑level visits and cooperation across many sectors, and reiterated noting Azerbaijan’s support for Serbia’s sovereignty. A few days later President Aleksandar Vučić welcomed the Spanish ambassador, emphasizing Spain as a key EU partner and partner, discussing expanded economic ties, Spain’s participation in Expo 2027 in Belgrade, and upcoming high‑level visits. Vučić also referenced the Azerbaijani ambassador, noting cited a sixteen‑fold increase in trade with Azerbaijan, plans for a new bridge, rolling‑stock procurement from Spain, and the purchase of Spanish military aircraft. The president linked aircraft, linking these diplomatic efforts to Serbia’s domestic political calendar, mentioning calendar and forthcoming elections. Together, On 8 August 2026 Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made his first official visit to Belgrade since Russia’s 2022 invasion. The trip, described by Kyiv as a “palm for the snapshots show Russians,” aimed to draw Serbia actively cultivating multiple away from Moscow’s sphere of influence. Vučić and Zelensky discussed Serbia’s European integration path, bilateral relationships, leveraging economic cooperation, energy ties, and security cooperation the newly announced Carpathian Initiative – a regional platform for logistics, security, tourism and post‑war reconstruction involving Ukraine, Serbia and six other European countries.
