The sports broadcasting landscape for Serie A is experiencing changes in pricing and rights management. DAZN has implemented price increases for its ‘DAZN Full’ and ‘DAZN Family’ subscription plans for the upcoming season, citing an expanded catalog that includes international tournaments like the FIFA Club World Cup and various tennis championships. While the Albanian platform Tring holds legal rights for Serie A and the Champions League within Albania, reports indicate its service is accessible outside the country due to a lack of strict geolocation. This has led to complaints from Serie A regarding the challenge to exclusivity for broadcasters holding rights in other territories. Following these concerns, Lega Serie A has suspended the supply of television signals to Tring. The decision was made after findings revealed that the platform’s signal was accessible in Italy without a VPN, allowing users to access a sports package including Serie A, the Champions League, and the NBA for approximately 250 euros per year—a fraction of the cost of domestic Italian subscriptions. Tring, which is controlled by Vertex Holding and pays roughly 4 million euros annually for Albanian rights, previously suggested the lack of blocking was intended to serve the Albanian diaspora. However, the Lega maintains that the signal supply will remain suspended until Tring provides sufficient guarantees that its OTT and satellite signals cannot be accessed from Italy, citing conflicts with the exclusive rights purchased by domestic broadcasters.
