Sette idee festival in Milan and Italian cybersecurity initiatives
The second edition of the ‘Sette idee’ festival, organized by L’Espresso, has launched in Milan. The event continues to showcase Italian innovation by featuring 98 competing startups across various sectors, including artificial intelligence, medicine, energy, finance, and education. Top performers from these competitions are scheduled to advance to a final in Rome. Central to the festival is the dialogue between universities, research institutions, and businesses. Marina Brambilla, Rector of the State University of Milan, has reiterated the necessity of maintaining an equilibrium between rapid scientific advancement and social inclusion to ensure progress benefits all citizens. Experts at the event have also emphasized that true innovation requires transforming technology into organizational capability rather than merely adopting new software. In parallel with the festival, discussions at the Ciso meetup 2026 in Rome have highlighted the urgent need for enhanced cybersecurity. Lorenzo Guerini, president of Copasir, and Franco Gabrielli, director of the Postal Police and Cyber Security Service, both called for strengthened public-private partnerships to protect Italy’s critical national infrastructure against increasing geopolitical and technological threats. Experts at the meetup noted that threats are evolving rapidly, specifically highlighting how artificial intelligence is being utilized to enhance phishing and deepfake attacks, alongside rising risks regarding vulnerability exploitation and supply chain security.
