Severe weather and safety alerts in Northern and Central Italy
Northern and central Italian regions have implemented various safety measures in response to severe weather warnings and environmental risks. In Lombardy, an orange alert was issued for thunderstorms, heavy rain, and potential hail, with specific warnings regarding hydrogeological risks in the Como province and Orobie Bergamasche areas. Local authorities in Saronno and Bergamo activated emergency protocols and closed public parks. Similarly, Emilia-Romagna issued a yellow alert for the Apennines due to expected persistent thunderstorms. In Bagno a Ripoli, an orange weather alert led to the closure of public parks, gardens, cemeteries, and sports facilities, alongside the cancellation of a local market to mitigate risks from heavy thunderstorms and hydrogeological hazards. Mayor Francesco Pignotti advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from watercourses and underpasses. In Riccione, Mayor Daniela Angelini ordered the temporary nighttime closure of three city parks—Parco della Resistenza, Parco Chico Mendes, and Parco degli Olivetani—following sightings of a wolf in the urban area. These restrictions, effective from August 19 to September 3, aim to ensure public safety while wildlife services attempt to relocate the animal. Weather concerns persist in Lombardy, where a yellow alert was issued for incoming heavy rainfall and thunderstorms affecting alpine and prealpine areas. Emergency services (AREU) also reported various incidents across the Cremona and Pavia provinces, including medical emergencies and assaults.
