Severe weather events have impacted various regions across Australia. In Central Australia, a severe storm in Alice Springs caused widespread destruction, including property damage from fallen trees and large hailstones. The storm resulted in significant power outages, affecting approximately 9,000 electricity customers, and prompted the Federal and Northern Territory Governments to activate disaster recovery assistance for households, primary producers, and non-profit organisations. Subsequently, a powerful weather system moved across eastern Australia, bringing a “trifecta” of large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rainfall. The Bureau of Meteorology issued warnings for millions of residents in Queensland, New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, and Victoria. In Queensland, extreme rainfall led to significant flooding in the Wide Bay-Burnett region, while New South Wales faced risks of flash flooding and property damage due to cold fronts and troughs. On October 25, powerful thunderstorms and high wind gusts caused further disruption across the Australian Capital Territory and the Riverina region of New South Wales. In Canberra, wind gusts of 72 km/h led to 60 emergency service callouts, including trees falling on houses and vehicles. Power outages affected several suburbs, such as Turner and Kambah, though no injuries were reported. In the Riverina, Narrandera recorded wind gusts of 94 km/h. SES crews responded to numerous incidents involving fallen trees blocking roads in Wagga Wagga, Narrandera, and surrounding areas, as well as two vehicle crashes on the Olympic Highway and Kidman Way.
