In late September, a wintry pattern affected interior and northern Alaska, leading to weather advisories for heavy snow and freezing spray. The Eastern Alaska Range faced expected snow accumulations of 6 to 11 inches along the Richardson Highway, while Arctic offshore waters were subject to a heavy freezing spray warning due to shifting winds and cold air. By late October, conditions intensified into a Bering Sea storm. Blizzard warnings were issued for the Bering Strait Coast, the Seward Peninsula, and Nome. The storm brought wind gusts of up to 65 mph and significant snow accumulations of 8 to 15 inches in the interior Seward Peninsula, creating difficult travel conditions and potential power outages. Concurrently, winter storm warnings were issued for parts of northern Alaska, including the South Slopes of the Central Brooks Range, Wiseman, Coldfoot, and sections of the Dalton Highway. Some areas faced up to 18 inches of snow with winds reaching 45 mph. In the Upper Koyukuk Valley, including Allakaket, Alatna, and Bettles, forecasters expected up to 12 inches of snow with 30 mph wind gusts. Additionally, the central Brooks Range and Atigun Pass were subject to forecasts of up to 6 inches of snow and wind gusts reaching 55 mph, which could reduce visibility to below a quarter-mile due to blowing snow.
