A series of severe weather events has impacted the Puglia region of Italy, causing property and agricultural damage. Initial reports focused on strong winds in Giovinazzo and Manfredonia. In Giovinazzo, wind caused plaster to detach from public housing buildings, creating safety emergencies. In Manfredonia, heavy gusts uprooted trees, damaged streetlamps, and blew over billboards, striking vehicles and obstructing traffic. Subsequent violent weather, including heavy downpours and strong gusts, struck the provinces of Bari and Taranto. In Ginosa, a reported waterspout uprooted hectares of vineyards and various structures. The agricultural organization Coldiretti Puglia warned that these intense precipitation events increase risks of soil erosion, runoff, and water stagnation, placing significant strain on local infrastructure and agricultural businesses. Coldiretti also noted increased hydrogeological risks due to urbanization and the abandonment of rural areas. More recently, severe thunderstorms and violent wind gusts hit the Gargano peninsula, specifically impacting Vico del Gargano and Peschici. In Vico del Gargano, wind caused trees, billboards, and lighting poles to fall, while property damage included lost roof tiles, solar panels being swept off buildings, and a chimney falling onto a vehicle. Local authorities, including Mayor Lello Sciscio, advised citizens to avoid areas with large trees while officials assess vegetation stability. Meteorologists suggested the intense weather may have been caused by a downburst or a possible waterspout or tornado driven by a cold front.
