Forecasters warned that high humidity could fuel intense downpours, potentially resulting in rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches. This created a risk of isolated flash flooding, particularly in areas south and east of the Interstate 95 corridor and the Eastern Shore, with St. Mary’s County noted as potentially vulnerable due to recent heavy precipitation. A cold front moving through the region eventually led to drier, more comfortable conditions conditions. By early September, the area faced a new period of intense heat and humidity coupled with lower humidity. the threat of severe thunderstorms. Following severe weather earlier in the week, tens of thousands of power outages were reported across D.C., Maryland, and northern Virginia, leading to the closure of Prince George’s County Public Schools. Forecasters warned that high temperatures in the 90s could trigger further strong to severe thunderstorms, with primary concerns including damaging winds, hail, and heavy rain.
