Sexual violence investigations in Colombia
Overview
Authorities in Colombia are investigating separate incidents of sexual violence in the Nariño and Santander regions.
In Nariño, the Ministry of Justice and the Prosecutor’s Office are examining the death of 72-year-old farmer Blanca Emeria Pardo Rosero. Found in a rural area of San Bernardo with injuries and signs of sexual abuse, she later died in a hospital. Her family has demanded justice, asserting, “My mother did not die, she was killed.”
In Santander, the National Police arrested a 28-year-old man in San Vicente de Chucurí for the alleged violent sexual assault of a 70-year-old woman on October 5. During the arrest, which involved the CTI and the Prosecutor’s Office, local residents reportedly attempted to take justice into their own hands.
