Shelly ALPM, a package manager for Arch Linux, has undergone several updates to its native build capabilities. Version 3.1.0 introduced a native in-process PKGBUILD builder, allowing the software to manage the entire Arch User Repository (AUR) workflow end-to-end by parsing instructions and executing build stages without the traditional makepkg tool. Subsequent version 3.1.4, codenamed ‘A Slice of Builds’, refined this native builder to better handle complex PKGBUILDs, specifically addressing shell parsing and timestamp issues. This update also introduced ‘Shellystrap’, a provisioning helper for isolated building environments, and a new flag to manage and delete cached AUR package archives to reclaim disk space. In late September 2026, Seafoam Labs released version 3.1.5, which added an optional AUR browser powered by Atoll, enabling users to search, sort, and browse paginated AUR listings within the GTK4 interface. This version also introduced a native build-and-install command to automate dependency fetching, compilation, and installation. Further improvements to the native builder included more predictable build environments through controlled PATH handling, alongside the ‘shelly repo-db’ command family for managing pacman-compatible repository databases. A subsequent patch, version 3.1.6, was issued to resolve a UI bug concerning CLI command fetching.
