Shinhan Financial Group has engaged in several strategic partnerships to expand its digital and international payment capabilities. Initially, Shinhan Bank partnered with StoneX Payments to integrate a global platform into its systems. This collaboration provides its customer base with access to cross-border payment and foreign-exchange services across 180 countries, specifically targeting emerging markets in Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa to reduce transaction costs. Subsequently, Shinhan Financial Group entered a partnership with Visa to explore advanced financial technologies. This collaboration focuses on utilizing the Visa Stablecoin Platform to test the issuance, remittance, and redemption of stablecoins. The two entities also plan to develop AI-driven payment models for both business-to-business and business-to-consumer sectors, integrating Shinhan’s various subsidiaries with Visa’s digital network. Building on this partnership, the companies are working to design a stablecoin business model specifically tailored to the South Korean financial and regulatory environment. Utilizing Visa’s enterprise stablecoin platform, the pilot program will verify core functions and explore the integration of stablecoins into traditional card payment settlements. This initiative aligns with South Korea’s advancement of the Digital Asset Basic Act, as Shinhan seeks to address operational efficiencies in cross-border settlements and liquidity management within a bank-grade environment.
