During the holy month of Sawan in 2026, various Shiva temples across India experienced significant religious activity and large gatherings of devotees. In Diu, pilgrims visited the Gangeshwar Mahadev Temple to observe the daily submergence of Shivlingas by the Arabian Sea tides and to perform traditional rituals. This cave shrine, which houses five Shivlingas believed to have been installed by the Pandavas, became a focal point for devotees during the first Monday of Sawan. Visitors observed the daily submergence and emergence of the lingas, performed rituals, and engaged in traditions such as Somvar Vrat and the Kanwar Yatra. In the Vasai-Virar region near Mumbai, the Tungarreshwar Mahadev Temple saw massive crowds during the second Monday of the month. Devotees performed rituals such as Jalabhishek, with authorities implementing crowd control measures to manage the large influx of people. As celebrations continued for Shravan Shivratri, significant crowds gathered in Haridwar at the Daksheshwar Mahadev Temple in Kankhal and the Virbhadra Mahadev Temple in Rishikesh. Devotees performed Jalabhishek by offering milk, Ganges water, and Belpatra to Lord Shiva. Prominent political leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, offered prayers for the nation’s health and prosperity.
