The manhunt for fugitive Alket Rizai, a convicted criminal and former associate of Vasilis Paleokostas, continues following his failure to return to Domokos Prison on September 14, 2026. Authorities suspect Rizai may have fled to Albania or Kosovo. New details have emerged regarding the September 13 shooting outside a beach bar in Anavyssos. While the incident involved a dispute over loud music, witness testimony suggests Rizai employed deceptive tactics to evade detection. One witness reported that Rizai used a black Mercedes SUV equipped with a police siren and loudspeaker to impersonate a law enforcement officer, allegedly using the siren to force a driver to pull over on Sounion Avenue before pointing a weapon at them. Although police located his vehicle, they did not immediately find the siren equipment described by the witness. In connection with the Anavyssos shooting, Greek authorities arrested a 27-year-old Afghan national in Piraeus on October 3. The suspect, a security guard at the establishment, is accused of attempting to fatally shoot an individual, an event that caused minor injuries to two passersby. During a search of the suspect's apartment, police seized a pistol with 12 rounds, a knife, cannabis, mobile phones, and 8,600 euros in cash. The individual faces charges including attempted murder and involvement in criminal organizations. Recent intelligence suggests Rizai’s last known location was in Northern Greece, reinforcing suspicions of an attempt to cross the border illegally. Rizai remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.
