In late September 2026, Norwegian authorities began investigating two separate shooting incidents in Jessheim and Kværnerbyen, Oslo. In Jessheim, police indicated the shooting in a residential area was likely not a random event, and investigators sought to determine if there was a connection to the Oslo incident, where shots were fired but no injuries were reported. By early October, a violent incident in Halden escalated into a confirmed attack on a hunting party. A father and his son were killed, and a third person was seriously injured while the group was organizing hunting positions on a farm east of Ørsjøen. The victims included a man in his 70s and his son in his 40s, while a third man in his 40s was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries. On October 4, authorities identified the suspect as 29-year-old Martin Braadland. While Braadland was not a member of the hunting group, investigators believe he had a connection to them and that the attack was driven by a conflict rather than being a random act of violence. Braadland was apprehended at the scene after witnesses helped subdue him. He has provided a written confession of guilt and consented to pretrial detention. Police have expanded the charges against him to include two counts of murder and attempted murder. As the investigation continues with assistance from Kripos, police have ordered a preliminary forensic psychiatric evaluation of the suspect. While some hunting activities in the vicinity were temporarily restricted to facilitate the forensic investigation, authorities have stated that the area is no longer considered dangerous. The Halden municipality has established a crisis team to support those affected. On October 9, the victims were identified as 72-year-old Bjørn Rune Engebretsen and 47-year-old Per-Ove Engebretsen.
