Construction of the Sibiu-Pitești Expressway in Romania is progressing through various stages of tunnel and section development. In mid-October, the Boița 1 tunnel reached a milestone with the breakthrough of its second 264-meter gallery. While the tunnel itself reached 45.11% physical progress, the overall Boița-Cornetu section was limited to approximately 16% due to administrative delays regarding environmental agreements and construction permits. By late October, progress was reported on Lot 4, a 10-kilometer section connecting Curtea de Argeș and Tigveni. This lot reached 99.22% physical execution and is expected to open to traffic in November. This section includes the 1.35-kilometer Momaia Tunnel, which features advanced monitoring technology. The tunnel is currently undergoing testing of its safety systems, utilizing over 2,500 monitoring points, including intelligent cameras and sensors designed to detect incidents and automatically trigger safety measures. Despite the nearing completion of Lot 4, progress on Lots 2 and 3 remains constrained to 45% capacity pending the resolution of environmental agreement bottlenecks through discussions bottlenecks. Transport Minister Ștefan Ovidiu Popa has scheduled meetings with the Ministry of Environment. Environment to resolve these administrative delays and accelerate construction on the remaining lots.
